Shri Pankaj Yadav IAS (Haryana 2001) has been empanelled as Additional Secretary at the Centre.
Shri Pankaj Yadav, IAS, is widely respected for his steady administrative growth, intellectual versatility, and long-standing engagement with rural and agricultural governance. With a career that bridges district administration, education reform, finance, and national-level policy formulation, he exemplifies grounded leadership combined with policy depth.
Academically, Shri Yadav brings a diverse foundation to public service. He graduated in Physics with Second rank from Jiwaji University, Gwalior, and later completed his Postgraduate degree in History (Second rank) from MLB Autonomous College under the same university. Expanding his intellectual canvas further, he earned a Postgraduate degree in Mass Communication (First rank) and a PG Diploma in Environmental Science (First rank) from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology. This multidisciplinary academic exposure—spanning science, humanities, communication, and environment—has distinctly shaped his administrative style, enabling him to approach governance with analytical clarity and effective public engagement.
At present, Shri Yadav serves as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, New Delhi (since May 2024). In this role, he contributes to policy planning and implementation in one of the country’s most significant sectors, directly impacting livelihoods, rural infrastructure, and poverty alleviation initiatives. Prior to this, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (2022–2024), where he was closely associated with agricultural policy and farmer-centric programs. His transition between these two key ministries underscores his domain strength in rural and agrarian development.
Before his central deputation, Shri Yadav held the position of Commissioner, Karnal (2018–2022), where he supervised district administration with a focus on revenue management, developmental coordination, and institutional efficiency. He was also entrusted with additional charge as Commissioner, Rohtak, reflecting administrative confidence in his leadership during a critical phase.
His earlier assignments include serving as Secretary, Public Works Department (Inter-Cadre Deputation), and multiple district-level postings across Bareilly, Meerut, Ambedkar Nagar, Narnaul, Panchkula, and Jind. As Deputy Commissioner in several districts, he managed law and order, revenue administration, and development schemes, consistently demonstrating a balanced and field-oriented approach.
In the education sector, Shri Yadav made notable contributions as Director & Joint Secretary in School Education, State Project Director of Har Prathamik Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad, and Project Director of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Haryana. His involvement in primary and secondary education reforms reflects a sustained commitment to strengthening human capital development. He also served as Director in Medical Education & Research and in Industrial Training & Vocational Education, expanding his portfolio across health and skill development sectors.
His tenure in Finance (Deputy Secretary, Finance Department, Chandigarh) and in Mines & Geology further broadened his administrative exposure, equipping him with fiscal and regulatory insights. Additionally, as Chief Administrator of the Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board, Panchkula, he handled institutional management within a socio-religious framework, balancing public sentiment with administrative discipline.
From his early days as Assistant Commissioner, Faridabad, and Sub-Divisional Officer to his current role at the national level, Shri Pankaj Yadav’s career reflects methodical progression and multidimensional competence. His ability to navigate diverse departments—rural development, agriculture, education, finance, public works, and district administration—demonstrates adaptability and institutional commitment.
With over two decades of experience, Shri Yadav continues to contribute meaningfully to governance architecture in India.
