Northeast unveiled, President to inaugurate Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav

President of India, Smt. Drupadi Murmu, will inaugurated the much-anticipated cultural extravaganza, Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav, at Amrit Udyan, Rashtrapati Bhavan. The event, a significant part of Udyan Utsav 2024, is organized by the Ministry of Development of North East Region in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and managed by DoNER’s CPSE, Northeastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC).

Union Minister of DoNER, Culture, and Tourism also graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and growth for the Northeastern region. The Mahotsav, running from 10 AM to 8 PM, offers free entry to all visitors.

The inaugural chapter of Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav is meticulously curated to present Northeast India’s rich diversity, blending traditional arts, crafts, and cultures under one vibrant umbrella. More than a celebration, the festival aims to foster exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, becoming a catalyst for the region’s growth and development.

Handicrafts, Handlooms, and Agri-Horti Produce

Over 320 weavers, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs participate, showcasing the unique aspects that make the Northeast Region a cultural jewel. The Mahotsav presents the best of Northeast India under one roof, featuring handcrafted products, handloom & textiles, and sustainable handicrafts. Northeast India’s sustainable organic products, including organic tea, bamboo products, spices, herbal medicines, handwoven textiles, organic pineapples, honey, and traditional rice varieties, are on display.

Live demonstrations at 20+ stations highlight skills such as Majuli Mask making, Basket weaving, Lotus Silk Extraction, Nettle Fibre weaving, Loinloom weaving, Dry Flower making, Tribal Jewellery making, Thangka Painting, Brass Metal Carving, and Wood Carving.

Cultural Showcase

350+ artists from all eight states present traditional dances, including the Wangala Dance of Meghalaya, the Mungwanta Dance of Nagaland, the Bamboo Dance of Mizoram, and the Bihu Dance of Assam. A unique fashion show focuses on multiple GI Products from North-East, promoting the stylistic genius of the region.

Food Stalls

A delightful representation of Northeast India’s diverse culinary landscape with stalls offering Assam Laksa, Manipur’s Eromba, and more. Explore and appreciate the region’s rich cultural tapestry through its unique flavors and indigenous herbs and spices.

Other Activities

Engaging activities for kids and youth, providing an avenue for learning about the historical and cultural richness of Northeast India.

The Mahotsav serves as a testament to India’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its cultural diversity, creating a platform for mutual growth and understanding. The event will continue until February 11, 2024, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the enchanting heritage of Northeast India.
