NLCIL receives Fly Ash Utilisation Award 2017

Fly ash Utilisation award 2017 is given by Mission Energy Foundation, a not for profit organisation to power producing companies demonstrating highest level of commitment in utilisation of fly ash with best practices. This year NLC’s Thermal Power Stations has been selected as the Winner among many power stations participated under the category of TPPS below 500 MW for its outstanding commitment and demonstration to utilise 100%, flyash generated from its Thermal Power Stations against National average of 58% and this achievement to protect the air, water and land environment and meeting the norms of 100% utilisation guided by Union Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change  (MOEF&CC).

NLCIL’s Thermal Power Stations of combined capacity of 4240 MW of both lignite and coal based are provided with dry fly ash collection facility and  the entire fly ash generated is used for manufacture of cement, bricks, blocks, micronutrient in agriculture and mine reclamation achieving about 100% utilisation. NLCIL has its own Department for producing fly ash products such as bricks, blocks, door and window frames etc. Every year about 12 lakh tonnes of dry fly ash is generated by Thermal Power stations at Neyveli and it is completely utilised.

NLC also has carried out R& D works to convert the flyash – the waste material into wealth. Use  of bottom ash as replacement of river sand, production zeolite , water treatment chemical  are some of the note worthy R&D works carried out by Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD), an in-house R&D Centre of NLCIL. In recognition of its distinguished contribution by NLCIL thermal stations,, the award was given to NLCIL by the Former Chairman of Coal India Ltd.,  & NLCIL Dr. M.P. Narayanan at the Fly Ash Conference-Expo-Award ceremony function organised by Mission Energy Foundation  at Vivanta by Taj, New Delhi on 28.02.2017 and the award was received by Dr. M. Velan, DGM/Environment, NLCI on behalf of the company.

In a simple function at the Corporate Office of the company, Dr. Velan handed over the Award to Dr.Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCI in the presence of Shri Subir Das, Shri V.Thangapandian, Shri P.Selvakumar, and Shri R.Vikraman, Directors of NLCI . It may be noted that NLC India has also bagged Flyash Utilisation Award instituted by Council of Power Utilities.
