NLCIL participates in Rally For Rivers-indian Bureaucracy

Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR), NLCIL participated in the function organized this morning at Puducherry as a part of the awareness rally “Rally For Rivers”.  Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Founder, Isha Yoga Foundation, Coimbatore is organizing the Rally for Rivers to bring about awareness throughout the nation.

The Sadhguru is on a mission to revive the depleting and extinct rivers of India through an awareness rally ‘Rally for Rivers’. He is spearheading the rally and is driving the vehicle himself. He is travelling 7000 Kms in 30 days through 16 States. The rally began on 03.09.2017 at Coimbatore and would be reaching New Delhi on 02.10.2017, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The rally from Coimbatore reached Puducherry yesterday (06.09.2017) via Madurai, Kannayakumari, Tiruvananthapuram and Trichy.

A function was organized to mark the occasion this morning near Gandhi Statue in Puducherry. Shri V.Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Chief Minister and Hon’ble Ministers of Puducherry Government and Shri R. Vikraman, Director/HR, NLCIL addressed the gathering with the Sadhguru.

Shri Vikraman in his address said our future generations need water, and for conservation of the same, such awareness rallies are being organized.  Our forefathers had preserved the water bodies and natural resources for us and the present generation is enjoying what had been left by them.  Now it is our duty to preserve and conserve the natural resources including water for our future generation.  The world has witnessed two world wars.  The experts predict that there may be a third world war for the sake of water which would become scarce in the coming years. The Rally for Rivers is to bring about the awareness of replenish the depleting water resources which would avoid the occurrence of third world war.  He wanted every one of us to unite and join the Rally for Rivers moment.

NLC India Limited has been organizing programmes for the improvement of water resources like large scale rain water harvesting, rising of ground water table by constructing of check dams and artificial recharging of ground water table.  Recently, the Walajha lake in Cuddalore District was desilted at the cost of Rs. 13.72 crore.  Also desilting works of Sengal Odai and Paravanaar are being carried out at the cost of Rs.27.52 crore.    Further, in the Cuddalore District 19 lakes are being desilted by NLCIL at the cost of Rs.463 lakh and Kurichi Kulam in Coimbatore District is being desilted at the cost Rs.165 lakh.
