NHAI to Revise FASTag Annual Pass Fee from 1st April 2026

The National Highways Authority of India has announced a revision in the applicable fee for the FASTag Annual Pass for the Financial Year 2026–27. The fee will increase from the existing Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 3,075, and the revised rate will come into effect from 1 April 2026. The adjustment has been made in accordance with the provisions of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, which govern the determination and periodic revision of toll charges on National Highways across India.

The FASTag Annual Pass scheme has gained significant traction among private vehicle owners since its introduction. According to official estimates, more than 56 lakh users have already adopted the facility, reflecting the growing preference for seamless and hassle-free toll payment solutions among highway commuters. The pass has emerged as a convenient option for frequent travelers who regularly use National Highways and wish to avoid repeated FASTag recharges.

Under the revised structure, the FASTag Annual Pass will continue to be available for eligible non-commercial vehicles that have a valid FASTag affixed to the vehicle. The pass can be used at approximately 1,150 fee plazas located across National Highways and National Expressways throughout the country. These toll plazas are part of India’s extensive highway network managed and monitored by the National Highways Authority of India.

One of the primary advantages of the FASTag Annual Pass is that it eliminates the need for regular FASTag recharges. Instead of topping up the FASTag balance multiple times during the year, users can make a single payment and enjoy uninterrupted travel benefits. The annual pass provides validity for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever occurs earlier. This structure is particularly beneficial for daily commuters, inter-city travelers, and individuals who frequently drive on national highways for work or personal purposes.

The scheme is applicable exclusively to non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. Commercial vehicles, buses, and trucks are not eligible to avail the benefits of the FASTag Annual Pass. By focusing on private vehicle users, the initiative aims to simplify toll payments and reduce congestion at toll plazas, while also ensuring smoother traffic flow along key highway corridors.

To make the process user-friendly and accessible, the activation of the FASTag Annual Pass has been integrated with digital platforms. Vehicle owners can purchase or renew the pass by making a one-time payment through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application or via the official website of the National Highways Authority of India. Once the payment is successfully completed, the pass is activated on the FASTag linked to the vehicle within approximately two hours.

The seamless activation process ensures that users can start availing the benefits almost immediately without requiring any additional physical documentation or manual verification. Since the pass is linked to the vehicle’s existing FASTag, users do not need to obtain a new tag or device. The integration with digital platforms also aligns with the broader government initiative to promote cashless and technology-driven solutions for transportation and infrastructure services.

The FASTag system itself has played a major role in transforming toll collection in India. With the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, vehicles can pass through toll plazas without stopping for manual payment, significantly reducing waiting times and improving traffic movement. The Annual Pass further builds on this digital infrastructure by offering a simplified payment model for frequent travelers.

The FASTag Annual Pass scheme was launched on 15 August 2025, marking an important step toward improving the user experience for highway commuters. Since its launch, the scheme has received an overwhelmingly positive response from vehicle owners across the country. The increasing adoption of the pass indicates the growing acceptance of digital tolling solutions and highlights the benefits of convenience, cost-effectiveness, and time savings for regular highway users.

Officials note that the modest revision in the annual pass fee is in line with established toll pricing rules and ensures the continued sustainability of highway infrastructure management and services. The revised fee structure will support ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade highway facilities while continuing to provide value and convenience to road users.

As the number of vehicles using national highways continues to grow, initiatives like the FASTag Annual Pass are expected to play a crucial role in streamlining toll operations and enhancing the overall travel experience. By combining digital technology with simplified payment options, the scheme represents a progressive step toward smarter and more efficient highway travel in India.
