Shri Naveen Kumar G S IAS (Uttar Pradesh 2007), presently Secretary, Irrigation Department, Uttar Pradesh, is given additional charge of State Nodal Officer – Prime Minister Agriculture Irrigation Scheme, Uttar Pradesh. This added responsibility recognizes his extensive administrative experience and sectoral expertise, particularly in irrigation and agriculture-related domains.
Shri Naveen Kumar is an engineering graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics from Madras University, where he passed with first-class honors. His technical background has informed his approach to governance, especially in departments involving infrastructure, technology, and rural development.
Since the beginning of his service, Shri Naveen Kumar has held several critical positions at both the state and central levels. He is currently serving as Secretary in the Irrigation Department and also holds the position of Joint Secretary in the Revenue Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. His career includes an inter-cadre deputation to Andhra Pradesh from 2019 to 2022, and earlier roles as Special Secretary in key departments such as Agriculture & Cooperation, Medical Health & Family Welfare, and Information Technology.
He has also served as Special Secretary to the Chief Minister and in the Department of Electronics & IT. His field-level experience is equally substantial, having worked as District Magistrate of Banda and Auraiya, and as Joint Magistrate in Gorakhpur and Assistant Collector in Kanpur Nagar.
Shri Naveen Kumar’s broad administrative exposure, particularly in land revenue management, agriculture, irrigation, and information technology, makes him well-suited for steering the implementation and monitoring of PMKSY in the state. His leadership is expected to further strengthen the scheme’s impact on enhancing irrigation potential and ensuring water use efficiency in Uttar Pradesh.
