Shri Narendra Anandrao Patil IRTS presently working as SDGM (SAG) has been appointed in HAG Grade and posted as SDGM on the Railway itself by transferring and utilizing the HAG/IRTS post of SC Railway (sanction for transfer of the post to be issued separately) by the Ministry of Railways.

Shri Narendra Anandrao Patil is a senior Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer widely recognized for his extensive contribution to railway transportation management, freight operations, infrastructure planning, public communication, and administrative leadership within Indian Railways. Over the years, he has handled several strategically important assignments across zonal railways and the Ministry of Railways, earning a reputation as an efficient, result-oriented, and forward-looking railway administrator.
Presently serving as Chief Transportation and Planning Manager (CTPM), Western Railway, Mumbai, Shri Patil is entrusted with planning, coordination, and monitoring of major railway infrastructure and operational projects. His current responsibilities include supervision of new railway lines, doubling projects, gauge conversion works, yard remodeling, coaching depots, freight terminals, and goods sheds. The role assumes considerable significance at a time when Indian Railways is focusing heavily on capacity enhancement, modernization, and logistics expansion to support the country’s economic growth.
Prior to this assignment, Shri Patil served as Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway from August 2023 to November 2025. Vijayawada Division is regarded as one of the busiest and operationally demanding divisions in the Indian Railways network, handling high-density passenger and freight traffic. During his tenure, he was associated with efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency, passenger amenities, infrastructure modernization, and safety management. His leadership in a highly challenging operational environment reflected his strong administrative capability and deep understanding of railway systems.
Earlier, Shri Patil held the important position of Chief Freight Transportation Manager (CFTM), Western Railway, Mumbai, from June 2021 to July 2023. His tenure is particularly remembered for Western Railway achieving a historic milestone by crossing 100 million tonnes of freight loading for the first time. This achievement placed Western Railway among the elite “100 Million Tonne Club” within Indian Railways and highlighted the zone’s growing importance in the national freight network. The accomplishment was widely viewed as a reflection of effective freight management, operational planning, and coordinated execution under his leadership.
From August 2017 to August 2021, Shri Patil served as Executive Director in the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, New Delhi. In this capacity, he contributed to important policy coordination and administrative functions at the national level and pan India. His experience at the Railway Board further strengthened his understanding of institutional governance, strategic planning, and infrastructure policy within the Indian Railways ecosystem.
Shri Patil also served as Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Indian Railways, Mumbai, from 2014 to 2017. As the principal spokesperson of the organization, he handled media relations, public communication, electronic and social media engagement, and dissemination of information to millions of railway passengers. His tenure was marked by effective communication management and professional handling of public outreach responsibilities.
An engineering graduate in Civil Engineering from Bharati Vidyapeeth University College of Engineering, Pune, Shri Patil completed his Bachelor of Engineering with First Class distinction. Over the course of his career, he has consistently demonstrated administrative maturity, operational insight, and commitment to institutional development.
