Indian Bureaucracy News, Patna, May 29, 2025 | Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the new terminal building at Jay Prakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport, Patna, and laid the foundation stone for a new civil enclave at Bihta Airport in Bihar. The ceremony was attended by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Union MoS Murlidhar Mohol, Deputy Chief Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Secretary (Civil Aviation), Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI), and senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and AAI.
The development projects are valued at ₹1,200 crore for the Patna terminal and ₹1,413 crore for the proposed Bihta enclave, together aimed at enhancing Bihar’s air connectivity. During a walkthrough of the new Patna terminal, the Prime Minister was briefed on project details and features.
The Patna terminal, spanning 65,150 sq m, is designed to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours and up to one crore annually. It includes 64 check-in counters, nine Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) units in Phase I, five aerobridges, four conveyor belts, an apron with 11 aircraft bays (nine Code C and two ATR), and a multilevel car park (MLCP) with capacity for 1,100 vehicles.
The Bihta terminal, covering 68,000 sq m, will also handle 3,000 peak-hour passengers and 50 lakh annually. Its facilities will include 64 check-in counters, 16 self-check-in kiosks, 10 ATRS, five aerobridges, six conveyor belts, a multilevel car park, and a service block.
Both terminals are designed to showcase Bihar’s art and cultural heritage, while incorporating sustainable features to reduce environmental impact and conserve energy. The projects are expected to improve passenger experience, generate employment, attract trade and investment, and integrate Bihar more closely with national and international networks.
