Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh is set to embark on an official visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, from November 16 to 17, 2023, to participate in the 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus). The meeting, hosted by Indonesia as the current chair of ADMM-Plus, will focus on regional and international security issues.
During the event on November 16, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will address the forum, sharing insights on mutual security concerns. Alongside the ADMM-Plus, bilateral meetings with Defense Ministers from participating countries will be conducted, fostering discussions on defense cooperation to enhance mutually beneficial engagements.
The ADMM is the foremost defense consultative and cooperative mechanism in ASEAN, while the ADMM-Plus serves as a platform for ASEAN member states and eight Dialogue Partners to strengthen security and defense cooperation.
India, a dialogue partner since 1992, actively participates in the ADMM-Plus. The upcoming meeting will announce the next set of co-chairs for the 2024-2027 cycle. In the current cycle (2021-2024), India co-chairs the Experts Working Group on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR) with Indonesia. The ADMM-Plus facilitates practical cooperation through various Experts Working Groups, addressing key areas such as Maritime Security, Military Medicine, Cyber Security, Peacekeeping Operations, Counter Terrorism, and Humanitarian Mine Action.
