Police Reshuffle in J&K, 34 IPS and 48 KPS Officers Transferred

Indian Bureaucracy News, Jammu/Srinagar, April 02, 2026 | The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered a major bureaucratic reshuffle in the police department, transferring 82 officers—34 from the Indian Police Service (IPS) and 48 from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS). The exercise has brought significant changes to key positions, with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Crime branch receiving new Inspectors General of Police (IGP), and several Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Superintendent of Police (SSP) posts being reassigned across the Union Territory.

The reshuffle has seen two new IGPs, fifteen DIGs, thirteen district or functional SSPs, four SPs, and three Additional SPs take charge, reflecting a clear overhaul of the police leadership across Jammu and Kashmir.

With Shri Tejinder Singh’s elevation to IGP of CID places an officer with significant border range experience at the center of investigation and intelligence gathering. Among the notable appointments, Shri Kartik Shrotriya, IPS, has been posted as the new SSP of Doda, while Shri Shridhar Patil Daulat, IPS, takes charge as DIG of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua range.
