Major Judicial Appointments: Five High Courts Get New Chief Justices

New Delhi: Judicial Appointments – In a significant development aimed at strengthening the judiciary and ensuring continuity in leadership across the High Courts, the President of India has appointed five eminent Judges as Chief Justices of various High Courts. The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.

As per the latest official notification, the following appointments have been approved:

1. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva – Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, who has been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, has now been appointed as its Chief Justice. Known for his clear legal reasoning and administrative leadership, Justice Sachdeva has had a distinguished career in the judiciary. His elevation comes at a time when the Madhya Pradesh High Court is focusing on strengthening infrastructure and judicial efficiency.

2. Justice Vibhu Bakhru – Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court
Justice Vibhu Bakhru, presently a Judge of the Delhi High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. Justice Bakhru has an impressive track record in handling complex commercial and constitutional matters. His appointment is expected to bring a sharp legal intellect and progressive vision to the Karnataka High Court.

3. Justice Ashutosh Kumar – Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court
Justice Ashutosh Kumar, who is currently the Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. With extensive experience in criminal and civil law, Justice Kumar has earned a reputation for judicial discipline and balanced interpretation. His tenure in Gauhati is expected to bolster judicial reforms in the northeastern region.

4. Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi – Chief Justice, Patna High Court
Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, a serving Judge of the Patna High Court, has been elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the same court. 5. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan – Chief Justice, Jharkhand High Court
Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, currently a Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. Justice Chauhan is widely respected for his integrity, judicial restraint, and progressive judgments. His experience will be a valuable asset for the judicial system in Jharkhand, which is striving to expand access to justice across rural and tribal regions.
