Shri Mahatme Sandeep Namdeo IAS (Tripura 2010) has been empanelled as Joint Secretary at the Centre.

Shri Mahatme Sandeep Namdeo, IAS is a distinguished officer known for his strong medical background and wide-ranging administrative experience across health, communications, urban development, and district governance. He completed his M.B.B.S. with First position from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and pursued his medical education at Seth G.S. Medical College, one of India’s premier medical institutions. His academic excellence in medicine laid a solid foundation for his later contributions to public administration.

Currently, Shri Mahatme serves as Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India (August 6, 2024 – May 9, 2026), at the rank of Director. In this strategic role at the Centre, he supports ministerial coordination, policy monitoring, and inter-ministerial engagement in sectors crucial to rural livelihoods and the agricultural economy.

Earlier in 2024, he held concurrent assignments as Private Secretary to the Union Ministers for Communications and for Electronics & Information Technology at the Director Equivalent level (February 3, 2024 – June 9, 2024). Prior to that, from August 2021 to February 2024, he served in similar capacities at the Deputy Secretary Equivalent level in the Ministries of Communications and Electronics & Information Technology. These assignments placed him at the heart of India’s digital expansion, telecom reforms, and technology-driven governance initiatives. He also briefly served on compulsory wait in the Ministry of Communications in mid-2024.

Shri Mahatme’s central deputation includes a tenure as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (May 2021 – February 2022), where his medical background proved particularly valuable in navigating health administration and policy implementation during a critical period.

At the state level, he has held key development and urban governance roles. In 2020–2021, he served as Director (Skill Development) under the Labour & Employment Department and simultaneously as Commissioner of the State Urban Development Authority, as well as Director & Additional Secretary in the Urban Development Department. These roles involved planning urban housing, town and country planning initiatives, and strengthening employment and training frameworks.

Shri Mahatme has extensive district administration experience in Tripura. He served as District Collector and District Magistrate of West Tripura (May 2018 – August 2020), Khowai (May 2017 – May 2018), and North Tripura (January 2016 – May 2017, with extended administrative association). In these assignments, he was responsible for land revenue management, law and order, development administration, and coordination of government schemes at the grassroots level.

Earlier, as Mission Director of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Tripura (February 2014 – January 2016), he led public health initiatives aimed at strengthening rural healthcare infrastructure and service delivery. His grounding in medicine significantly enhanced his effectiveness in this role, aligning health policy with practical medical realities.

He began his field career as Sub-Divisional Officer/Sub-Divisional Magistrate (August 2012 – January 2014) and earlier as Assistant Collector & Executive Magistrate under training in North Tripura (July 2011 – June 2012). His formal administrative training was undertaken at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration from August 2010 to June 2011, marking the beginning of his journey in public service.

Throughout his career, Shri Mahatme Sandeep Namdeo has demonstrated versatility—transitioning seamlessly between health administration, digital governance, urban planning, and district leadership. His professional trajectory reflects the dynamic responsibilities within the Indian Bureaucracy, where domain expertise and administrative capability converge to drive public service outcomes.
