Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has asked corporate bodies and private agencies to have a separate corpus for promoting science and technology research. Addressing the valedictory function of the four-day India International Science Festival in Chennai on Monday evening, he said India had a glorious tradition in science and technology and asked the youth to reclaim it by their dedicated and innovative research activities.

He said a proper ecosystem for innovative science research should be ensured for the progress of the nation. He also observed that science and technology would help reduce disparities between urban and rural areas and economic divide.

Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said non-polluting firecrackers would be developed before Diwali next year by using advances in pyro-technology.

He said the world’s latest dental implants have been developed by Indian scientists and about 250 similar technologies will be transferred from Indian laboratories to the public for commercial production in a couple of months.

The highlight of the four-day India International Science Festival include the setting of a Guinness World Record for staging the world’s largest biology teaching session, participated by more than a thousand students.

The third edition of the science festival was attended by more than 4000 delegates. The exhibition put up by pioneering laboratories and government and NGOs were visited by more than a lakh people.
