Dr. M Ravichandran presently Secretary- Ministry of Earth Sciences has been given extension for a period of one year beyond the age of his superannuation, i.e. from 01.06.2025 to 31.05.2026 by The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Dr. M. Ravichandran is serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India. A distinguished scientist in the field of oceanography and climate science, he has contributed significantly to India’s polar and ocean research programs.
Prior to his appointment as Secretary, he served as the Director of the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). He has played a key role in advancing India’s capabilities in ocean modeling, climate services, and polar expeditions.
Dr. Ravichandran’s tenure as Secretary, MoES, has been extended by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for one year beyond his age of superannuation, i.e., from 01 June 2025 to 31 May 2026
