Shri Justice Shree Chandrashekhar presently Judge – Bombay High Court has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, born on 25th May 1965, is a seasoned and highly regarded member of the Indian judiciary known for his deep understanding of both civil and criminal law. He completed his legal education at the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, one of the country’s premier law institutions, earning his LL.B. in 1993. Soon after, on 9th December 1993, he was enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi State Bar Council, marking the beginning of an illustrious legal career.
Justice Chandrashekhar started his professional journey in Delhi, practicing on both the criminal and civil sides. Over nearly two decades of legal practice, he built an impressive reputation, having conducted over 3,500 cases, many of which were argued before the Supreme Court of India. His deep involvement in legal advocacy is reflected in the 140 reported judgments of the Supreme Court in which he appeared as counsel — a remarkable accomplishment that speaks to his legal proficiency and dedication.
During his time as an advocate, Justice Chandrashekhar served as Standing Counsel for the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the State of Jharkhand in the Supreme Court. His clientele also included key statutory bodies such as the Bihar State Housing Board, Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and several private corporations. His breadth of legal expertise and trust among clients made him a much-sought-after counsel across a range of sectors.
Justice Chandrashekhar was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi, on 17th January 2013 and confirmed as a Permanent Judge on 27th June 2014. His judicial contributions over the years have been marked by clarity of thought, a principled approach, and fairness in adjudication.
Further recognizing his administrative acumen and leadership, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from 29th December 2023 to 4th July 2024. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court, and he now continues his judicial service as a Judge of the Bombay High Court.
