Dr. Justice P. Devadass has been appointed as Chairperson, Coastal Aquaculture Authority, Chennai for a period of three years.
Dr. Justice P.Devadass was born on 15.5.1955. He has passed B.A., B.L. Exams. He has also passed M.L. Exam, securing First Class and University First Rank. He was awarded Ph.D in Law by the Madras University for his Thesis. Enrolled as an Advocate in 1981. He was Legal Aid Panel Advocate. Part-Time Professor of Law. Law Examiner for various Law Exams. He practiced under Mr.E.D.Devadasan Bar-at Law. He joined the State Subordinate Judiciary on 16.5.1986. He has served as a District Munsif in Tiruvarur, Judicial Magistrate in Sivagangai, Musiri, Sub-Judge in Tiruchirappalli, Pattukkottai, X Metropolitan Magistrate, Chennai, Presiding Officer, Labour Court, Additional Sessions Judge-cum-CJM, Vellore, Principal District Judge, Cuddalore, Madurai, Additional Director, Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy, I Additional Sessions Judge, Special Judge under TNPID Act, Special Judge under TADA and POTA, Sessions Judge for Bomb Blast Cases, Principal Judge, Family Court, Principal Judge, City Civil Court, Chennai. On 20.12.2011, he was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court. On 26.9.2013,
Dr Devadass was made a Permanent Judge. As Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, he has conducted legal literacy and legal awareness programmes in all the villages in Cuddalore District. He has compiled an ‘Hand Book on Legal Aid’ which has been published by the High Court. He has delivered lectures in Law Colleges, Universities, Judicial Academies and Bar Associations. Presided over Moot Courts. He had made a comparative study of Judicial Training Programmes in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra and submitted a Report on ‘Revamping the Judicial Training Programmes in Tamil Nadu’. His articles on various legal topics have been published in many Law Journals and other Journals.
