Shri Jai Prakash Shivahare IAS (Gujarat 2002) has been appointed as Joint Secretary-
Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) for a tenure of five years by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet at Joint Secretary Level (Level 14).
Shri Jai Prakash Shivahare IAS, a seasoned administrator from the Gujarat cadre, has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. An alumnus of Allahabad University, he holds a degree in Psychology and later pursued a Master’s in Public Policy from the Australian National University, Canberra, at the prestigious Crawford School of Government and Economics. His academic background reflects a strong foundation in human behavior and policy design — a combination that has served him well in the dynamic world of public administration.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Shri Shivahare has held several critical positions that span diverse sectors such as energy, health, urban governance, rural development, and industry. Most recently, he served as Managing Director of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd., where he played a vital role in strengthening Gujarat’s power infrastructure and promoting efficiency in the state’s energy distribution network. His leadership has been marked by pragmatic decision-making and a results-driven approach to public policy execution.
Previously, as Commissioner of Health and Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, he steered major public health initiatives and effectively managed critical healthcare operations during challenging times. His tenure as Chief Executive Officer, Industries & Mines Department (Special Projects) underscored his ability to attract industrial investments and facilitate ease of doing business, contributing significantly to Gujarat’s reputation as an industrial powerhouse.
Shri Shivahare’s field experience as District Collector in multiple districts including Surat, Dangs, and Himatnagar further demonstrates his administrative depth and people-centric governance style. His work in rural and urban development projects, from District Development Officer to Municipal Commissioner, Bhavnagar, reflects his holistic understanding of governance at both grassroots and strategic levels.
