Shri Jagdish Mukhi Presently Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has been appointed as the Assam Governor.Shri Jagdish Mukhi was born on 1st December 1942 at Dajal, Dera Ghazi Khan of Punjab, now in Pakistan. He graduated in commerce from Raj Rishi College, Alwar (Rajasthan).
In 1967, he did his M.Com from Shri Ram College of Commerce of Delhi University.Shri Jagdish Mukhi took to active politics since 25th June, 1975 when emergency was clamped. He has been representing Janak Puri constituency continuously from 1980 and has won seven times from the same constituency.
Shri Jagdish Mukhi has earlier held the portfolios of Finance, Planning, Excise & Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi Government. He is credited with working extensively for the welfare of citizens of Delhi.
He was leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly from 1998-2008.He was awarded as Best Finance & Planning Minister by the then Planning Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in year 1997. He was also awarded as best MLA by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Manohar Joshi in year 2002.
