India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ITDC) the public sector undertaking under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India is making a collaborating effort with Tihar Jail to train inmates under “Hunar se Rozgar” scheme (A Skill Development Programme sponsored by Ministry of Tourism) through its Centre of Excellence “Ashok Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management” (AIH&TM), one of the premier PSU Hospitality Training Institutes of the country.

In sync with the vision of Ministry of Tourism and commitment by ITDC, the adopted scheme would built an environment of opportunities for the confined to again be able to become a part of mainstream society and lead a life of respect.

The first training batch on “Front Office Associate” for 30 detainees under Tihar Jail was inaugurated by Shri Sudhir Yadav, Director General, Prisons Tihar Jail and Shri. Piyush Tiwari, Director (Commercial & Marketing), ITDC along with Mrs. Sudha Chandra Principal, AIHTM & General Manager, HRD, ITDC in the presence of Mr. RajKumar, Additional Inspector General (Prisons); Mr. Shailendra Parihar, Deputy Inspector General (Prisons); Mr. Jitendra Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector General, Mandoli along with Ms. Anju Mangla, Superintendent Prison, Tihar Jail at Tihar Jail, New Delhi on 13th September 2017.

Recognising the endeavour undertaken by ITDC, Shri Sudhir Yadav, Director General, Prison Tihar Jail said, “I appreciate ITDC’s initiative for coming up with such an unusual effort towards creating an ecosystem of knowledge for the detainees, to lead them on a path away from the world of crime. We hope to change their outlook and give the inmates of Tihar a chance to lead a dutiful life as a part of prevailing society”.

Speaking with pride at the occasion, Shri Piyush Tiwari, Director (Commercial and Marketing) ITDC, said “ITDC has faith in power of knowledge and education. We believe that it can change one’s outlook towards life and the way one chooses to grow in life. With ITDC’s expertise in hospitality training and management, we tend to make difference and build right set of circumstances to let human evolve.

 

Our talented team at AIH&TM has trained more than 15,000 candidates under ‘Hunar Se Rozgar’ scheme through its Hotels and industry partners. We are sure that this collaboration is going to impart employable skills to these young inmates of Tihar jail. Our faculty at AIHTM will make sure that they have best of the training in the best suited atmosphere.

We are going to plan more programs in the coming quarters for enforcing strength and leadership quality in other organisations as well.” Mr. Tiwari added.

The first batch starting from 14th September will be extensively being focused on Front Office Associate Course. The duration of course is divided into 340 hours of theory and 200 hours of practical application of relevant theories. The Classes would be conducted at the Tihar Jail.

With the progress of the initiative, skill building classes in ‘Food & Beverage Course’ and ‘Housekeeping Course’ would also be undertaken.

AIH&TM, ITDC will provide Uniform and toolkit free of cost as the part of the course. At the completion of the course, an assessment will be carried out; Trainees with meritorious performance will get the benefit of stipend and Letter of Recommendation.
