One of the largest e-commerce portals in the Asia-Pacific region, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has been named the country’s most popular e-commerce portal in the Government/Public Sector Services category at the BW Businessworld Golden Cart Awards.

The awards were decided on a series of online surveys conducted across 16 cities to evaluate over 85 brands across 14 core e-commerce categories to find out the winners.

“We are honoured to receive the Golden Cart this year and will continue to build our e-commerce brand and deliver the best to our consumers with quality services and innovation,” said Chairman & Managing Director Dr. A. K. Manocha, who received the award on behalf of IRCTC at an impressive function at The Leela hotel, Gurgaon.

A ‘mini-ratna’ PSU of the Indian Railways, IRCTC is an extensive, single-window solution for e-ticketing, catering, tourism and online shopping that has seen steady growth over the years.

The ticketing portal which has over three crore registered users averages around 5.5 to 6 lakh e-ticket bookings every day.

The Golden Carts have been instituted by BW Businessworld to honour India’s favourite brands in the e-commerce industry.

IRCTC, which recently made an entry in the Fortune Next 500 list of Indian companies for the second year in a row, had recently received a string of awards, including Dun & Bradstreet’s publication ‘India’s Top PSUs’ and a Special Prize of SCOPE Corporate Communication Excellence Awards 2016 for “Effective and Innovative use of Digital Communication.”
