An Iranian delegation headed by H.E. Dr. Abbas Akhoundi, Hon. Minister of Road and Urban Development visited JN Port on 29th September to see the Port facilities and know about the future development plans.Dr. Akhoundi and his delegation were received by Shri Anil Diggikar, Chairman, JNPT, Shri Neeraj Bansal, Dy.Chairman, JNPT and senior Port officials.
The delegation was taken around the Port operational area to show the Port infrastructure and facilities. In the meeting the delegation was briefed about the Port traffic performance, financial performance and the various ‘Ease of Doing Business Initiatives’ implemented for the benefit of trade. Future development plans of JNPT like Fourth container terminal , Dry Ports and Satellite Port were discussed with the delegation along with the proposed Chabahar Port. Hon’ble Minister appreciated the performance of the Port and the efforts taken towards building a sustainable ecosystem.
Hon’ble Minister of Islamic republic of Iran also held discussions with representatives of trade & commerce and logistics industry like AMTOI, CSLA and other shipping companies for the development of Chabahar Port where there is also proposal of development of Free Trade Zone, which offers several investment opportunities to Indian investors. Recently in May 2016 a MoU was signed between India and Iran for the development of Chabahar Port. The project is being developed by India Ports Global Pvt. Ltd, an SPV of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Kandla Port Trust.
