Shri Arun Goel, Election Commissioner of India, is heading a three-member delegation invited by the Maldives Election Commission to observe their 2023 Presidential Election. The first round of this election, which took place on September 9, 2023, featured eight candidates and adhered to Maldives’ election laws. Since no candidate received over 50% of the votes, a second round will be held on September 30, 2023, with the top two candidates from the initial round.
The Indian delegation, including Mr. Ajay Bhadoo, IAS (Gujarat 1999) and Mr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, Principal Secretary – Election Commission of India, visited 22 polling booths to observe the election process. International observers from various countries and organizations also participated in the election observation program.
