Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate significant infrastructure projects on October 20, 2023. The event is marked by the launch of the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor at Sahibabad RapidX Station, Uttar Pradesh.
The priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor spans 17 kilometers, linking Sahibabad to ‘Duhai Depot,’ with stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Duhai along the route. This project aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing regional connectivity by creating world-class transport infrastructure.
The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is a transformative project designed to offer high-speed trains for intercity commuting at intervals as short as every 15 minutes. With a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, the RRTS aims to revolutionize regional development. Three corridors are prioritized for implementation in Phase-I: Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, with an investment exceeding Rs. 30,000 crore, will reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to less than an hour, passing through urban centers such as Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.
The RRTS project is characterized by its state-of-the-art regional mobility solutions, comparable to global standards. It emphasizes multi-modal integration with railway stations, metro stations, and bus services, aligning with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. This integration is expected to bolster economic activity, improve access to opportunities in education, healthcare, and employment, and contribute to a significant reduction in traffic congestion and air pollution.
In addition to inaugurating the RRTS corridor, the Prime Minister will also dedicate two metro stretches in Bengaluru. These stretches, which connect Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura and Kengeri to Challaghatta, have already been operational since October 9, 2023, for the convenience of the public.
The projects represent a significant step toward bolstering India’s infrastructure and advancing its vision for efficient and sustainable transportation networks.
