The Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (I/C), Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh receiving a memorandum from a delegation of Indian Information Service (IIS) Group 'B' Association, in New Delhi on October 09, 2016.

A delegation of Indian Information Service (IIS) Group B Association led by its President Shri Rajendra Bhatt called on the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today and sought the intervention of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for timely promotions and cadre review.

In a detailed memorandum submitted to the Minister, the members of delegation highlighted that the Indian Information Service is an essential component in the Government’s Information and Broadcasting mechanism. They said, it was an irony that even though normally a cadre review exercise is expected to be conducted every 5 years, but in case of IIS Group ‘B’ officers, cadre review has not taken place for several years. In addition, the memorandum mentioned that the IIS Group ‘B’ officers face slow career progression. This, according of them, was an outcome of change in Service Rules in 1987 which, they suggested, requires re-visiting and review.

Dr Jitendra Singh gave them a patient hearing and said that whatever could be feasible within the rules and guidelines of the DoPT, shall be done for them. He said, the Government always tries to maintain the morale and initiative of the officials so that they have opportunity to serve the Government and the public to the best of their ability.
