Haryana Government to organise the ‘Gram Uday to Bharat Uday Abhiyan’

Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, said that the State Government would organise the ‘Gram Uday to Bharat Uday Abhiyan’(village self governance campaign) from April 14 to 24, 2016. The campaign aims to generate nation-wide efforts to boost social harmony across villages, strengthen Panchayati Raj, promote rural development and foster farmers’ progress. While stating this , the Chief Minister said that the event was being organised by the Central Government in collaboration with the States and Panchayats.

He said that the campaign would begin on Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary on April 14 and culminate on Panchayati Raj Day on April 24. Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, would inaugurate the campaign on April 14 at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh. On April 24, the Prime Minister would address all the Gram Sabhas of the country from Jamshedpur. This address would be beamed to all villages, where people would gather to listen to him, he added. Giving further details, Agriculture Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar, said that a ‘Social Harmony Programme’ would be conducted in all Gram Panchayats, supported collaboratively by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, between April 14 and 16. In this programme, villagers would honour Dr. Ambedkar and resolve to strengthen social harmony.

Information regarding various schemes of the government to foster social justice would be provided, he added. Mr. Dhankar said that ‘Village Farmer Assemblies’ would be organised in Gram Panchayats between April 17 and 20 to promote agriculture. In these assemblies, information regarding schemes such as the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ and ‘Social Health Card’ would be provided to farmers and their suggestions for bringing about improvements in agriculture would be solicited. The Agriculture Minister said that a national level meeting of tribal women Gram Panchayat presidents from Fifth Schedule Areas of 10 States would be held at Vijaywada on April 19.

These would focus on Panchayat and tribal development. He said that Gram Sabha meetings would be held across the country from April 21 to 24. A Prabhat Pheri or morning walk would be held in the village, apart from a programme on sanitation and cultural and sports programmes. The topics of discussions in these Gram Sabhas would include Gram Panchayat Development Plans for local economic development, optimum utilisation of funds available with Panchayati Raj Institutions, clean drinking water and sanitation, role of women in village and rural development and social inclusion, including welfare of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups. He said that on April 24, Panchayati Raj Day would be celebrated at Jamshedpur.

This event would be attended by selected Panchayat representatives from the country. The Prime Minister would address the gathering on this day and his message would be beamed live to all villages in the country. Public representatives and officers of Central and State Government would attend Gram Sabha. Villagers would also take an oath for the development of the village and the country, he added.
