The Kerala government established the Vyttila Mobility Hub (VMH) to streamline urban transportation in Kochi by integrating buses, metro rail, and inland water transport into a single transit terminal. With Kochi housing nearly 40% of Ernakulam district’s urban population, the hub is essential for managing daily commuter traffic and reducing congestion on overloaded roads.
Strategically located at the intersection of NH-17, NH-47, NH-49, and National Waterway 3, the hub strengthens the regional transport network while encouraging public transit use and minimising reliance on private vehicles. By centralizing major bus terminals, it aims to cut travel time and lower commuting costs. In addition to its transport function, the hub will feature commercial spaces, shopping centers, and hospitality services, creating a self-sustained urban center. Its design includes a long-distance bus terminal, multi-level parking, administrative and business towers, and designated areas for taxis and autorickshaws. With a strong design emphasis on pedestrian movement, the hub promotes sustainable urban mobility and a commuter-friendly environment.
