Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal, launched the sale of ‘Bharat’ Rice, marking a significant step in the government’s initiatives for food pricing and distribution. This move includes the deployment of 100 mobile vans for efficient distribution. Minister Goyal underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sensitivity to the people’s needs, ensuring that essential commodity prices are effectively managed. The government reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of farmers and citizens, with a focus on procuring essential commodities from farmers and selling them to consumers at subsidized rates. ‘Bharat’ Rice, available in 5 Kg and 10 Kg bags, will be sold at a maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs. 29/kg through Kendriya Bhandar, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) outlets. Additionally, ‘Bharat’ Atta and ‘Bharat’ Dal are already being offered at fair and affordable prices. The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) continues to benefit over 80 crore beneficiaries, ensuring farmers receive Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for food grains. The government’s comprehensive measures also include stabilizing edible oil prices, managing the sugar sector for farmer and consumer welfare, and strategically procuring and distributing essential commodities. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers, public distribution system (PDS) beneficiaries, and ordinary consumers, ensuring fair and affordable pricing for essential commodities.
