Gaurav Lal IPS appointed Joint CP- Howrah Police Commissionerate
Shri Gaurav Lal IPS (West Bengal 2011), presently DIG- CID, West Bengal, has been transferred and posted as Joint Commissioner of Police- Howrah Police Commissionerate.
The Joint Commissioner of Police – Howrah Police Commissionerate is a senior Indian Police Service officer responsible for assisting the Police Commissioner in overseeing policing and administrative functions within the Howrah Police Commissionerate. The Commissionerate, functioning under the broader framework of the West Bengal Police, is entrusted with maintaining law and order, crime prevention, traffic management, and public safety in the Howrah metropolitan area.
The Joint Commissioner supervises key divisions such as crime, headquarters, traffic, or special branches, depending on the portfolio assigned. The officer monitors major investigations, ensures effective deployment of personnel, coordinates intelligence inputs, and oversees law and order arrangements during festivals, elections, VIP visits, and emergency situations. The role also involves close coordination with civil administration and other law enforcement agencies to address urban policing challenges.
