The Foundation Stone for the development of Civil Enclave at Darbhanga Airport in Bihar was laid by Shri Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar and Shri. Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation today. The Ceremony took place in the august presence of Shri. Jayant Sinha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Shri Ram Kripal Yadav, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Shri Sushil Kumar Modi, Deputy Chief Minister, Bihar and other esteemed dignitaries.
Darbhanga Airport belongs to the Indian Air Force with runway length of 9000ft., suitable for operation of Air Bus -321 type of aircraft. IAF is providing required space to AAI at Darbhanga, for setting up an interim civil terminal inside the Air Force Station premises, on short term lease, till the completion of permanent civil Enclave by AAI on the land to be provided by the State Government.
The upcoming New Terminal building of the civil enclave (15000sq ft) will be a no-frill Pre-fabricated/Pre-engineered structure with all essential passenger facilities. The terminal building will have six check –in counters with peak hour handling capacity of 200 passengers. Total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 92 Crores.
Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), under-served and unserved airports are being linked through RCS routes to provide air connectivity to the citizens of the country. Darbhanga will be connected to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru under UDAN Scheme.
Darbhanga is an important district and a big city in the northern part of Bihar, India. A part of Gangetic plains of the north India, it is the fifth largest city of Bihar. The new civil enclave at Darbhanga Airport will play a significant role enhancing connectivity in Bihar and will give impetus to the economic growth of the region.
