Facilities for Differently abled Passengers in Public Transport

State Transport Undertakings (STUs) have inducted low floor buses with foldable ramp provisions in urban buses. Kneeling facilities have been provided in high-end intercity coaches and urban vehicles. Provision of additional third steps for boarding and de-boarding of disabled person is being provided in some cases. Dedicated seats for disabled persons are provided near the entry of all buses of SRTUs. Ramps and barrier free toilet facility along with facility of wheel chairs have been provided in bus stands by some of the SRTUs. All Bus Rapid Transits (BRT) stands are disabled friendly. This information was given by Minister of State for Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Pon Radhakrishnan in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
