Indian Railways have prepared an Action Plan to electrify 24400 route kilometers in five years (2016-17 to 2020-21). Presently Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE), Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Zonal Railways are executing electrification works. To increase the pace of electrification, following three Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been assigned the work of electrification:-

(b): Indian Railways have planned to source about 1000 Mega Watt (MW) Solar Power and about 200 MW of wind mill power plants by 2020 to reduce its carbon footprints.
