Asking the DRDO to develop more products which can help the armed forces to deal the upcoming challenges in the area of security and Defence, the defence minister said the organisation can play a pivotal role in the modernisation of the armed forces.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat thanked the DRDO for the products. General Rawat said, DRDO products will further strengthen the Army in its fight against enemies.

Our correspondent reports WLR is a coherent, electronically scanned C-Band phased array radar which automatically locates hostile artillery, mortars and rocket launchers in the range of upto 30 kilometres. It also tracks friendly fire to locate the impact point for necessary corrections.

The radar is designed to detect projectiles with small cross section across the battle space horizon and has the capability to handle simultaneous fire from weapons deployed at multiple locations.

The NBC Recce Vehicle will diagnose the existence of nuclear, biological, and chemical agents in the atmosphere during the NBC warfare to cordon the contaminated areas and protect the living beings.

The other product NBC Drugs impart protection against lethal exposure of gamma radiation both prior to entering hot zone or after exposure.
