Dr Jitendra Singh visits Sikkim ahead of PM visit

Dr. Jitendra Singh arrived in Gangtok, Sikkim ahead of the Prime Minister Modi’s 2 day visit to the state of Sikkim beginning tomorrow (Jan 18th, 2016) . He was received at the Raj Bhawan by the Governor, Shriniwas Patil. Meetings were held with Chief Minister, Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling and senior officers of the State Administration to discuss in detail the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s 2-day visit to the state.

organic-mission-sikkim_indianbureaucracyDuring his 2-day visit, the Prime Minister will address the valedictory session of the National Conference of Agriculture Ministers of different States, organized by the Union Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Union Ministry of DoNER and the State Government of Sikkim. He will be visiting the venue of Sikkim Organic Festival on the 19th January,2016.

Sikkim declared itself an Organic State back in 2003, and has systematically curtailed subsidy for inorganic fertilizers and pesticides ever since. The new impetus is expected to boost the organic farming in the state and the surrounding region. Organic Farming Mission is the brain child of Ministry of DoNER and the program will be carried forward by the Union Ministry of Agriculture which has better infrastructure and resources, the Ministry of DoNER will be providing the logistic support and other possible assistance for successful accomplishment of organic farming dividends.
