The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a scheme to acknowledge Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for their outstanding contributions to the expansion of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband connections in rural India. This initiative aims to boost digital inclusion and socio-economic development in rural areas.

The scheme will annually recognize nine ISPs, three from each of the A, B, and C categories, based on their net additions in rural FTTH connections from April to March. The minimum net addition criteria vary by category, with Category A requiring a minimum of 50,000 net additions, Category B needing 10,000, and Category C aiming for 2,000. Recognized ISPs will receive certificates and have their names displayed on the DoT website. The recognition will be given annually for the net additions from April to March. The first recognition would be for the period 1st April, 2023 to 31st March, 2024. This initiative highlights the Indian government’s commitment to expanding digital access and connectivity in rural regions to drive inclusive growth and socio-economic progress.
