At India Mobile Congress 2023 (IMC-2023), the Department of Telecom (DoT) introduced several transformative trends that promise to change the way people experience connectivity. These trends are set to bring substantial benefits to the public:

1. Digital Inclusion: DoT emphasized its commitment to bridging the digital divide and extending connectivity to every corner of the country. Initiatives and policies showcased at IMC-2023 aim to ensure that even remote and underserved areas have access to robust telecom services, opening new opportunities for people.

2. Ease of Doing Business: The Department introduced digitization programs designed to simplify compliance for telecom licensees and enhance the quality of service delivery. These digital platforms, such as SARAS and SAMPANN, not only streamline processes but also lead to improved service for telecom and pensioners, offering a more convenient and efficient experience.

3. Pensioner Services: SAMPANN (System for Accounting and Management of Pension) was highlighted as a system that has positively impacted the lives of pensioners. It ensures timely settlement of pension cases, provides e-Pension Payment Orders, enables easy access to payment history, and allows online grievance submissions, offering significant benefits to over four lakh DOT/BSNL/MTNL pensioners.

4. e-Governance and Transparency: By embracing digital technology, DoT showcased its efforts to deliver transparent and efficient services to the public. Online systems like SARAS ensure the paperless submission of various documents, such as revenue-related orders, deduction documents, and more, simplifying processes and improving transparency.

5. Monetary Benefits: IMC-2023 highlighted that these digital systems have already resulted in significant monetary benefits. For instance, SARAS has facilitated the collection of around Rs two lakh crore in revenue, while SAMPANN has led to savings of approximately Rs 44 crore and will result in an annual recurring savings of Rs 40 Crore per annum for the Government. These savings are expected to contribute to better fiscal management and potentially benefit the public through various initiatives.

The Department of Telecom’s emphasis on digital inclusion, streamlined processes, and e-governance signals a significant shift toward improved services for the public, ensuring that they can experience the benefits of connectivity more conveniently and transparently.
