Defence Ministry launched the Armed Forces Week from 1st to 7th of this month. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman appealed countrymen to join in this Armed Forces Week, in wearing Armed Forces flag to pay respects to the brave sons and daughters of our nation. She said people can also contribute towards welfare of war-widows, children of martyrs and ex-servicemen by visiting http://ksb.gov.in. Mrs Sitharaman also thanked those who protect the honour of the nation.

Defence Ministry will spread awareness about the valour of armed forces till December 7th, when the nation will observe Armed Forces Day. AIR correspondent reports, the objective is to encourage citizens to make financial contributions to the families of war heroes and promote welfare activities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is his last Mann ki Baat addressing the nation on the eve of Mumbai 26/11 attacks anniversary welcomed the idea to instil respect for armed forces as part of a campaign. Mr Modi said, throughout the week every one, old or young, should wear the flag and a movement to instill respect for the forces will come into being in the country. Prime minister also said videos and pictures can be posted on #armedforcesflagday. Mr Modi said, people from the forces could be invited to schools and colleges to share information about the forces
