Shri Deepak Bagla has taken over as the Mission Director of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog. A highly accomplished professional, Shri Bagla brings with him a rich and diverse experience spanning over three decades in the areas of banking, investment promotion, international diplomacy, public policy, and institutional leadership. His multifaceted expertise, built across multilateral organisations, the private sector, and Government of India, places him in a unique position to lead AIM into its next phase of growth and impact.
Prior to this prestigious assignment, Shri Bagla served as the Managing Director & CEO of Invest India, the Government of India’s national investment promotion and facilitation agency. Under his dynamic leadership, Invest India grew into a globally acclaimed institution, recognised for its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, supporting innovation, and promoting India as a premier investment destination. His tenure saw the agency win numerous international honours, while also emerging as a critical driver for startup ecosystem development across the country.
Shri Bagla has also served on several high-level committees constituted by the Government and represented India on various international platforms. Notably, he served as the President of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), further elevating India’s presence and voice on global economic forums.
Academically, Shri Bagla is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He later pursued his Master’s degrees in International Diplomacy and International Trade & Finance from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., reflecting his strong academic foundation and global outlook.
