Debapriya Bardhan IAS appointed Director – Department of Expenditure

Shri Debapriya Bardhan IAS (Tripura 2012) has  been appointed as Director in the Department of Expenditure, Delhi under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years .

Shri Debapriya Bardhan is a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), belonging to the Tripura cadre. With a solid academic foundation in engineering, he completed his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, securing First Division. His technical background, combined with administrative training, has enabled him to approach governance with analytical precision and problem-solving skills.

Department of Expenditure

Since joining the IAS, Shri Bardhan has accumulated rich and diverse experience across multiple domains of public administration. He began his career with foundational roles such as Assistant Collector and Executive Magistrate during training in Dhalai district, followed by his tenure as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Gomati. These early assignments provided him with hands-on exposure to land revenue management, law and order, and grassroots governance.

He went on to serve as District Collector and District Magistrate in several districts of Tripura, including South Tripura, Gomati, West Tripura, and North Tripura. In these roles, he was responsible for overseeing district administration, implementing government schemes, maintaining public order, and driving developmental initiatives. His leadership at the district level significantly contributed to effective governance, coordination among departments, and citizen-centric service delivery.

In addition to his district-level responsibilities, Shri Bardhan has held several key positions in the state government. As Commissioner of Taxes in the Finance Department, he handled commercial tax administration and contributed to strengthening revenue systems. His role as Director of Information Technology reflected his ability to leverage technology for governance and digital transformation. Simultaneously, he also managed responsibilities in the IT domain for an extended period, showcasing his capacity to handle multiple critical assignments.

He further served as Municipal Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, where he played a vital role in urban administration and civic infrastructure development. His tenure as Inspector General (Prisons) in Tripura demonstrated his involvement in law and justice administration, focusing on prison management and reforms.

Most recently, Shri Bardhan served as Special Secretary (Deputy Secretary equivalent) in the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department of Tripura. In this capacity, he was involved in policy implementation related to public distribution systems, food security, and consumer protection.

With extensive experience spanning district administration, finance, urban development, IT, and law enforcement, Shri Debapriya Bardhan exemplifies the versatility and dynamism expected of an IAS officer. His career reflects a strong commitment to public service, administrative efficiency, and inclusive development.
