The meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Labour and Employment was held with the agenda for discussion being Functioning of Directorate General Mines Safety(DGMS) and Directorate General Factory Advice Service and Labour Institute(DGFASLI)”. Chairing the meeting, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, the Minister of State (IC), Labour & Employment briefed members on agenda and various steps taken for the safety and welfare of workers.
After presentations on DGMS and DGFASLI, the meeting discussed the agenda in detail. Members appreciated the initiatives taken by the Ministry and suggested ways to improve it further. The suggestions included to devise mechanism for ensuring safety of workers in all mines, to protect the contractual labour specially his safety, to make a comparative study of safety measures taken by PSUs, joint ventures and Private players. Members also suggested focusing more on health issues of the workers.
Shri Bandaru Dattatreya assured members to take care of the suggestions made and increasing coordination with Health Ministry. The meeting also confirmed the minutes of the previous meeting and the Action Taken Report. The Minister thanked members for their valuable suggestions and urged the members to cooperate in the endevours of the Mininstry .The Members of Parliament who attended the Committee’s meeting include Shri Shankar Prasad Datta, Shri NK Premchandran and Shri Prahlad Singh Patel (all from LS) and Dr.Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu(RS).
The last meeting of the Committee was held on 14th October , 2015 on “Chief Labour Commissioner (Central),Shram Suvidha Portal and Implementation of Building and other Construction Workers”
