Durgapur Steel Plant is the only forged wheel producer in the country and is supplying various types of wheels and axles to the Indian Railways for more than 50 years. The plant has developed various wheels over the years in collaboration with the Indian Railways as per their changing requirements.
In Nov’2019, Wheel & Axle Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant has supplied 5004 wheels & 1024 Axles. This includes a record dispatch of 1390 nos. of WAG9 wheels, which is one of the biggest & difficult wheel profile under manufacture.
As per the request of Indian Railways, DSP has reoriented its product-mix towards Locomotive wheels & specially manufacture of WAG9 wheels. In the current fiscal, a record of 8809 nos. of WAG9 wheels have already been supplied to Indian Railways against supply of 6715 nos. of wheels in 2018-19. In Nov’19, the second consignment of LHB wheels, which are under development was dispatched and all efforts are being made to dispatch the 3rd consignment which is under inspection by RDSO in December’2019.
