CM -UP inaugurates 35 projects worth Rs. 300 crore at KGMU

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that his government was working relentlessly to improve healthcare and medical facilities in the state. While the posts of doctors has been increased, more and more government medical colleges have also been established as also new institutes are being established and old ones being strengthened to ensure adequate availability of the para-medical staff. Terming the KGMU as a front-ranking medical university in the country and the world, the Chief Minister said it has a glorious past and that pass-out from here were earning appreciation and respect all over the world.

Mr. Yadav was speaking  at the Scientific Convention Centre after dedicating to the people and laying foundations of 35 projects worth Rs. 300 crore. Among other projects, major is the Rs. 105 expansion of the cardiology ward. After the completion of this project, 100 more beds would be added. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of expansion of the cardiology department which once completed will ensure 24×7 services round the year for those in need. 2 Other than these, foundation stone was laid for a burn unit and organ transplant ICU and the projects which were dedicated to the people included a Trauma Centre -2 at Rae Bareli road, electron microscopy, linear accelerator and mammography machine.

In his address the Chief Minister detailed various efforts of the state government to improve healthcare, both in urban and rural areas. He also assured the medical fraternity that availability of funds will not be a problem and exhorted them to ensure that best available and prompt treatment was given to those who come to the KGMU. Mr. Yadav also lamented the poor state of healthcare in rural areas even after so much time having passed since independence. The Chief Minister urged everyone to come together to improve the scenario and informed of various steps taken by the present government to bring about a turnaround in the healthcare sector.

Vice Chancellor of the Varsity, Prof. Ravi Kant while welcoming the guests said the KGMU was working hard to provide the best facilities to patients. He also informed that this year the Medical Council of India had approved adding 250 seats to the MBBS course. Before this, Principal Secretary (Medical Education) Mr. Anoop Chandra Pandey said due to the efforts of the Chief Minister the health sector had seen a silent revolution and informed how while from independence to the year 2012, state had 1140 MBBS seats, this year the number has grown to 1740. On this occasion, Prof. Mansoor Hasan also expressed his views.

Also present on the occasion were Basic Education Minister Mr. Ahmad Hasan, Political Pension Minister Mr. Rajendra Chowdhary, a large number of doctors, professors and medical students.
