The Centre has deployed 50 additional companies of para military forces to Assam . Official sources in Guwahati said that, some of them have already arrived in the state while rest are expecting to arrive in a day or two. The Assam government has requested the Centre to depute additional forces in the state to maintain law and order situation ahead of publication of draft of the National Register of Citizens, NRC.
Initially the draft is to be published by 31st December of this year however it may be delayed till July next year. Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has said that any nefarious design to derail the NRC process will be thwarted.NRC is being updated under the supervision of the Supreme Court to detect illegal citizens staying in Assam.
