Shri Aunjaneya Kumar Singh IAS (Sikkim 2005) has been given extension of inter cadre deputation tenure from Sikkim cadre to Uttar Pradesh cadre for a period of one year beyond 14.08.2025.

Shri Aunjaneya Kumar Singh, a 2005 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Sikkim cadre, has built a distinguished career marked by versatility, dedication, and a deep commitment to governance. Recently, he was granted an extension of his inter-cadre deputation from the Sikkim cadre to the Uttar Pradesh cadre, allowing him to continue serving in one of India’s largest and most complex states. Over the years, he has held some of the most challenging assignments in both Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh, gaining a reputation as a capable and people-oriented administrator.

Academically, Shri Singh has always been driven by a passion for learning and communication. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in English from Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, securing a first division, followed by a Master of Arts (Honours) in English Literature from the same institution. His quest for knowledge led him to Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, where he pursued studies in Journalism and completed both a Graduate degree and a Master of Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC), again earning first-class results. This academic blend of literature and journalism sharpened his analytical skills, honed his ability to articulate ideas with clarity, and nurtured his sensitivity to social realities—attributes that have greatly contributed to his administrative career.

Shri Singh began his IAS journey in Sikkim, where he took charge as Sub-Divisional Magistrate of East Sikkim in 2006. His tenure there provided him with firsthand experience in handling law and order, developmental programmes, and people’s grievances. In 2008, he became District Magistrate and Collector of West Sikkim, where he managed land revenue and disaster-related responsibilities in a geographically challenging terrain. These early years laid the foundation of his administrative outlook, shaping him into a firm yet empathetic officer. He went on to serve as Deputy Commissioner in Gangtok and as District Collector in Namchi, while also being entrusted with the responsibility of Managing Director of the State Planning Institute, Sikkim. These roles combined district-level administration with wider exposure to policy planning and programme implementation, making him a well-rounded officer.

On inter-cadre deputation to Uttar Pradesh, Shri Singh took up a series of important assignments that expanded his experience beyond Sikkim. His early roles included positions in the Irrigation and Water Resources sector as Special Secretary and later Commissioner and Special Secretary in the Irrigation and Command Area Development Department at Lucknow. He also served as CEO of the Land Development Department, contributing to land management and rural development. These positions demonstrated his ability to handle complex administrative portfolios with long-term developmental impact.

He then moved to the heart of governance as District Magistrate and Collector in Bulandshahr, Fatehpur, and Rampur, between 2016 and 2023. These postings demanded leadership in law and order, development, and disaster management while maintaining social harmony and ensuring the effective implementation of government schemes. His tenure in Rampur was particularly significant, as he steered administrative efforts in a district known for its social and political sensitivities. Throughout his work in district administration, he earned appreciation for his ability to combine firmness with accessibility, ensuring that government schemes in health, education, welfare, and infrastructure reached the people effectively.

Shri Singh also gained valuable experience in financial governance during his assignments as Assistant Commissioner and Additional Commissioner in the Commercial Taxes Department at Lucknow, where he was responsible for matters related to taxation and revenue mobilization. This exposure gave him an understanding of the state’s fiscal machinery and its role in supporting development initiatives.

His leadership abilities were further recognized when he was elevated to the post of Divisional Commissioner, Moradabad, in March 2021, a responsibility equivalent to that of a Joint Secretary at the Centre. In this role, he has overseen multiple districts, coordinated law and order, and ensured the smooth implementation of state government priorities across the division. At the same time, he has been serving as Joint Secretary (Cadre – AIS) since June 2021, reflecting the trust placed in his administrative acumen at the national level.

The recent extension of his inter-cadre deputation to Uttar Pradesh underscores the confidence of both the Centre and the state in his ability to continue delivering effective governance. It also reflects his adaptability in serving across vastly different environments, from the hill districts of Sikkim to the populous and diverse regions of Uttar Pradesh. His career so far represents not only steady progression but also a remarkable range of experiences, covering district administration, revenue management, disaster response, irrigation, taxation, planning, and high-level policymaking.

Shri Aunjaneya Kumar Singh’s journey is that of a civil servant who has consistently combined academic excellence, professional dedication, and a people-centric approach. His ability to balance grassroots realities with broader policy frameworks has made him a valuable asset to the Indian Administrative Service. As he continues in his extended deputation in Uttar Pradesh, there are high expectations that he will further strengthen governance and contribute meaningfully to public welfare and state development. His career stands as a testament to commitment, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence in public service.
