Dr Arun Kumar Rath IAS (Jharkhand 1973) (Retired) presently CEO of SAIL’s Durgapur Steel Plant, took charge as the new CEO of Bhilai Steel plant, Shri Rath replaces Shri M Ravi .

Dr. Arun Kumar Rath  has been Chief Executive Officer of Durgapur Steel Plant at Steel Authority of India Limited since March 24, 2016. Dr. Rath serves as a Secretary in Ministry of HRD, Government of India. He served as ED – Projects Monitoring Committee at IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur, Special Secretary & Financial Adviser- Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India until November 2007. He is a 1973  batch IAS and has held various positions in his three decade long career with Indian Administrative Services, including JS-  Dept  of Public Enterprises, GoI, Special Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel and Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy. During his stint in the Department of Public Enterprises, he played an active role in introducing reform in the governance of central public sector enterprises and while with the Department of School Education & Literacy, he was involved in shaping the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2008. He started his career in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in 1982.

He has around 34 years of rich experience in Steel plants and has proved his mettle in Electrical Maintenance and repair of large Electrical Machines. He served as an Independent Director for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., from February 16, 2010 to February 15, 2013. He served as a Director of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited until July 31, 2007. He served as a Director at MECON Limited. He served as an Independent Director of Coal India Ltd. from April 27, 2010 to April 26, 2013. He served as Director of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. until November 16, 2007. He has served as Director of SAIL from December 2004 to November 16, 2007. He served as a Director at NMDC Limited until November 16, 2007.

He is a professor and chairman of public policy at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon and  Member of the academic council of Central University, Orissa. He is a distinguished alumnus of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Rath holds a Master’s Degree in Physics from Delhi University and a doctorate in business administration from KIIT University, Bhubaneshwar.
