Aparajita IAS as Deputy Commissioner – Kaithal, Haryana

Smt Aparajita IAS (Haryana 2018), presently Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Haryana, is transferred and appointed as Deputy Commissioner – Kaithal, Haryana.

Kaithal is a historic and culturally rich district located in the north-western Indian state of Haryana. Known for its ancient roots, agrarian economy, and growing urban character, Kaithal occupies a unique place in the historical and social landscape of northern India. Situated between Kurukshetra and Jind, the district is well connected by road and rail, making it an important regional hub for trade, administration, and education.

Historically, Kaithal is believed to be associated with the Mahabharata era. Many historians link the town to Kapishthal, a place mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts. It is said that Lord Hanuman, who was also known as Kapisthal, had a connection with this region, giving the town its ancient name. The area has witnessed the rise and fall of several dynasties, including the Mauryas, Guptas, and later the Mughals, each leaving behind traces of their rule. Remnants of old forts, temples, and historical sites reflect Kaithal’s long and layered past.

Geographically, Kaithal lies in the fertile plains of Haryana, blessed with alluvial soil and supported by canals and groundwater irrigation. Agriculture remains the backbone of the district’s economy. Crops such as wheat, rice, mustard, and sugarcane are widely cultivated, contributing significantly to Haryana’s food grain production. Dairy farming also plays a vital role, with milk and milk-based products forming an important source of income for rural households.

Culturally, Kaithal reflects the traditional Haryanvi way of life. Folk music, dance forms like ragini, and vibrant festivals such as Holi, Diwali, and Teej are celebrated with great enthusiasm. The people of Kaithal are known for their simplicity, hospitality, and strong community bonds. The local cuisine, rich in dairy products, includes staples like bajra roti, kachri ki sabzi, lassi, and homemade butter, which are integral to everyday life.

In recent years, Kaithal has witnessed steady development in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. The town has several government and private schools, colleges, and coaching institutions catering to students from nearby rural areas. Improvements in roads, public transport, and digital connectivity have helped bridge the gap between rural and urban spaces. Small-scale industries, trading markets, and service sectors are also expanding, providing employment opportunities to the local population.

Overall, Kaithal is a blend of ancient heritage and modern aspirations. While it remains deeply rooted in its agricultural and cultural traditions, it is gradually embracing development and change. With its historical significance, hardworking population, and strategic location, Kaithal continues to grow as an important district of Haryana, preserving its past while steadily moving toward the future.
