The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) is a flagship rural development programme implemented by the Government of Uttar Pradesh under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. The scheme guarantees 100 days of wage employment per financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. In Uttar Pradesh, MNREGA plays a crucial role in strengthening livelihood security, promoting inclusive growth, and curbing rural distress migration. The state focuses on durable asset creation through works related to water conservation, land development, rural connectivity, and environmental sustainability. Special emphasis is given to empowering women and marginalized communities by ensuring their active participation and timely wage payments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Continuous monitoring, transparency measures, and the use of digital platforms have further enhanced the efficiency and accountability of MNREGA implementation across districts in Uttar Pradesh.
