Shri Ajay Kashyap IPS (1985) presently Delhi Traffic Police Special Commissioner has been appointed as the new Director General of Tihar Jail with immediate effect. According to a release of the office of LG Shri Ajay Kashyap has been handed over the charge in place of incumbent Director General of Tihar Jail Sudhir Yadav who is retiring from the job on October 30. Mr Kashyap will take over the responsibility on October 1 .
Mr Kashyap is the second most senior officer in ‘ranking’ and ‘charge’ after Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik. He has held many important posts including that of Joint commissioner of South Range. Mr Kashyap has also been Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of North East Delhi. Under the set guidelines for the selection of an officer to the post of Director-General of Tihar Jail, the Home department of the Delhi government sends a list of prospective names to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief minister following which the LG approves the final names after consultations with the Home department.
