Airports Authority of India will undertake the work for construction of Integrated Cargo Terminal at Imphal Airport after obtaining grant-in-aid under Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) of Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I), Govt. of India. The Government of Manipur had planned to establish an Export Import Cargo Terminal (EICT) at Tulihal, Imphal Airport under ASIDE Scheme of the (MoC&I), Govt. of India.
The objectives of establishment of Integrated Cargo Terminal at Imphal Airport are :
- Export promotion for handicrafts items and perishable cargo
- Fostering of economic development of the Region
- Generating employment opportunities in NER
- To establish connectivity between South & Southeast Asia, thereby achieving the improved efficiency and productivity
- Liberalization of trade with India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
A Grant of Rs.12.96 crores of the total cost estimation of Rs.16.20 crores has been sanctioned by MoC&I under Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) and the balance amount to construct the Cargo Terminal will be met out of internal sources of AAI.
