46 IAS Transferred in UP; Inside the Yogi Govt’s Latest Bureaucratic Overhaul

Indian Bureaucracy News, Lucknow, October 29, 2025| In one of the largest bureaucratic reshuffles in recent months, the Uttar Pradesh government has transferred 46 IAS officers (order dated October 28, 2025) across various departments and districts. The exercise spans both field and secretariat postings, bringing changes among District Magistrates, Divisional Commissioners, and senior officers in the state administration.

A key feature of the reshuffle is the posting of sixteen (16) officers to Lucknow, several of whom have been appointed as Special Secretaries in departments such as the Chief Minister’s Office, Home, State Taxes, Excise, Planning, Namami Gange, and Silk Development. The large-scale transfers mark a broad administrative rotation across field and policy positions at the state headquarters.

Ten districts—Siddharth Nagar, Balrampur, Basti, Sitapur, Chitrakoot, Hathras, Kaushambi, Lalitpur, Shrawasti, and Rampur—will see new District Magistrates taking charge. Divisional Commissioners in Mirzapur, Saharanpur, and Meerut have also been reassigned, alongside new appointments of Municipal Commissioners in Jhansi, Varanasi, and Firozabad. The government has simultaneously restructured several urban bodies, bringing in new Vice Chairmen for Development Authorities in Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Firozabad–Shikohabad.

For clarity, the transfers can be viewed under four broad categories: (1) List of New District Magistrates and Collectors appointed, (2) Officers posted to State Capital – Lucknow in key administrative and policy roles, (3) Administrative Changes in major metropolitan cities including Meerut, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, and Prayagraj, and (4) Transfers in Tier-II cities such as Mirzapur, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Firozabad, Bijnor, Aligarh, Kushinagar, and Rampur.

While seniority has largely been respected, officials indicated that location-specific administrative needs guided the reshuffle, ensuring that postings align with regional priorities and ongoing governance objectives rather than a rigid hierarchy.
