Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Gandhi has informed that as per the census 2011, provided by Registrar General of India, the number of widows and female aged 60 years and above is 432,61,478 and 527,77,168 respectively. The Ministry of Women & Child Development has released an amount of Rs.16.60 Crores under Swadhar scheme during 2014-15. An amount of Rs. 18.10 Crores has also been released under Short Stay Home Scheme during 2014-15. The Schemes, Swadhar and Short Stay Homes have been merged and revised as “Swadhar Greh” Scheme.
